I would say that the best thing to do would be to experiment. Your question is
open-ended because much would have to do with the focal length. FWIW, most of
my shots are at F11-16. I've never had a problem with diffraction, and I would
be surprised if this was shown with infrared film. Bottom line is to
experiment.
