Hi all,
I've always used Adorama, but they still don't stock Maco, and Freestyle
is backordering, so I checked B & H in NY, and they had the stuff on the
shelf. I bought 5 rolls, and had it in 2 days.

This will be my first try at Maco's IR.

I'm actually quite new to IR, having shot about ten rolls each of Konica
120 and Kodak HIE 35mm so far over the last 6 months.

My impressions so far: Kodak does have a pleasing halo effect, but I've
produced some amazingly sharp, detailed, fine grained 11 x 14s with
Konica 750 120 rollfilm. The HIE grain starts overpowering my prints
when I try to go over 8x 10.

I've got some Xtol, and it seems many here prefer it, but I want to get
comfrotable with D 76 before I experiment with others. I've tried
Rodinal, and like it too, but not on Kodak. If I'm visualizing a high
contrast, lith type print, I like konica and Rodinal. If I want fine
detail, it seems D 76 works better on either film.

I haven't painted any yet, but it seems to me infrared prints are
perfect for handcoloring. I've making extra prints when I do fiber base
for that.

Speaking of paper, I am finding that I like cold tone infrareds. Warm
tones just don't look as good to me. After the first couple of batches,
I gave up on Sepia toning of my infrareds. And I quit using the warm
tone paper too. Selenium only since then. I may get brave and try some
of those Fotospeed color toners up on the top shelf of the darkroom too.

Well, that's enough down time. Back to the darkroom. I've got a bunch of
good Konica 750 negs from a recent expedition to the swamp/bayou country
very near my home.

Regards,
Sid B
