Re: Portrait Settings (Konica)

Studio flash has less infrared than either daylight or incandescent studio
lights. When I shot Konica with studio flash, and a red #25 filter, I rated it
at ISO 8 using a flash meter.
Your 1/60th at f5.6 is a reasonable setting for sunny weather outdoors, but I
don't believe those values correspond to ISO200. Also, the shutter speed is not
affecting the density of your negatives when you're using the studio flash; just
pick a shutter speed that synchronizes with your camera (1/60th is safe). Are
you using a flash meter?
If your strobes are approximately two meters from your subject, I would guess
that f5.6 is not nearly a wide enough aperture. That's especially true if you
are using any sort of diffuser, softbox, or umbrella. You'll need to either move
the flash heads extremely close to your subject, or use a more powerful flash
system. I tried using Konica for flash portraits, and gave it up; instead I use
the Kodak 70mm IR in the studio now. Even using monolights about 3 times more
powerful than the Novatron lights you are using, I could not get what I
considered to be reasonable depth of field with Konica.
