RE: Nikon Coolpix digitals and IR

I have recently purchased a Coolpix 950 for the department here and I can
certainly say it does work with IR.
I have only had chance to try it in the Studio so far, but it does work
well. The only filter I have used that gives slightly underexposed and flat
images was a B+W 094 (1,000 nm cut off). Though even these images once auto
leveled in photoshop are quite useable. I would say you would probably be
best with a 88a or even a 87c. I can also say I think it works well as a
digi camera, though some of the layout could be a little better I have used
a lot worse. My only tip for you would be, get a compact flash reader for
your computer they make life so much easier.
As I said I have only had a chance to use it properly in the studio so far
(if only it would stop raining here in the UK!). I do remember taking a
couple of shots just out of my window and getting a useable IR photo even if
VERY boring.
I hope this helps, or let me know if you want me to send you a couple of
shots though email.

Supposedly, the CP990 is not as

Thanks for the reply.... I finally found a few references
from the list
regarding the 990, and found a "somewhat flat" (agreed) IR
sample image
on a list member's site. What about the 800 series? The 880
for example
- has anyone tried it for IR? I know digital is not exactly
a favorite
topic on the list, and I have no intention of using to
replace HIE. I
develop and print all my own work in a darkroom, and will
continue to do
so. But since I am going to buy a Nikon digital camera
anyway, I just
want to be sure it will at least allow me to use it as a
(another
worn-out topic on this list) "preview device". :=o
Has anyone else any experience with the Nikon line of
digitals? I'd
rather just slap on a filter and shoot away - I'm not about
to dismantle
my brand new camera to remove any internal filters.
Thanks for any more replies-
Brian
