The non infrared emulsion layers in EIR are sensitive to visible light. 
Polarizing the visible light, as with "normal" film will reduce glare and 
saturize color. Try it. You will notice a big difference. The polarizer alone 
with EIR also produces a cool effect. Everything turns magenta. Sky, clouds, 
grass etc.
