Hi there y'all

Kodak markets film with both ester and estar bases..... the estar base
being more dimensionally stable during and after processing. The first film
with estar base that comes to mind is Rapid Process Copy film.... a REAL
bitch for cutting and mounting

Having machine or hand cut and mounted many thousands of slides with both
types of bases, I can support the fact that estar base films are much
"harder" to cut (cleanly) by automatic cutting/mounting machines. As a
result, many labs prefer not to have to deal with the mounting of
estar-based films, preferring to let you do it yourself with scissors.
