I work in a photo lab, and when I have tried to mount HIE in our slide mounting
machine, it DOES NOT cut through the emulsion all the way. I have also had
trouble cutting IR negs in the negative sleeving machines. It may not be any
thicker than other film bases, but it IS a lot tougher. I believe it has
everything to do with the ESTAR film base Kodak uses for those two films.
