Thanks Ron,
That was exactly the kind of info I was looking for...I guess I might
have underexposed a little, then underdeveloped using my *plan* of
rating it at 400 and doing 3 and 3...enough to get some real hard to
print negs...
Bill

Subject: Diafine and HIE
Bill:
Diafine has been my "standard" developer with HIE for nearly ten years.
I rate the film at 320 (three hundred twenty) when using a 25A filter
and through-the-lens metering. (The camera is an FA, using Nikon
matrix metering.) The advantage to Diafine is that the highlight density
is controlled rather well. Others may prefer conventional developers,
which will give you a bit more tone separation. If you decide to use
Diafine, try FIVE minutes in each bath, instead of three with Kodak HIE.
Hope this gives you a useful starting point.
>> Searching for anyone who has souped HIE in Diafine showed up nil on the
net, so I figured I'd go to the people (you know who you are) that use HIE
and also do their own developing, and ask.
Diafine seems to not care about the times -- 3min in A and 3min in B no
matter what type of BW film you use. BUT! Diafine seems to want you
to up-rate the ASA (or whatever they're calling it this year <g> ) I.E.
1000 for
Tri-X, 800 for HP5, etc, etc...I was *planning* on using HIE @ 400 with the
red25 in place as I use internal metering, but if anybody can point me in
a different direction 'cause I'm getting ready to waste a roll, please do
so!
