maco exposure
Hi Kristina Anderson,
Turning to your question about Maco, I would like to add following
information. I set my exposure at ISO 50 and shoot through a #89B
(equivalent B+W092, Helioplan 695) filter (metering through the lens wthout
filter!). I develop in XTOL 1+1 at 20 degress C. during 13 minutes. The
results are almost comparable with HIE and show more wood effects than
Konica. I would say: Maco sits between HIE and Konica.
I tried a #25 filter, but it is too weak, hardly any infrared(wood) effects.
A #87C filter is too strong and decreases the sensitivity of your Maco film
to something like ISO 6. Moreover A #87C filter cuts out not only all
visible light but also part of the IR waves (from appr. 800-830NM). As Maco
has a peak sentivity of 820 NM you will catch very little infrared hence
the low ISO rating of 6 (in practice even lower!). Therefore it is my strong
opinion that a #87C filter is not the ideal filter for Maco. The best filter
is #89B or equivalents. This filter is also recommended by the manufacturer
in their information leaflet. I have some samples (3 pics, I believe) of
Maco pictures on my website (gallery nr. 4). See address in footer below.
Success!
