See, the problem is, you can't tile a sphere with squares.
So I don't think you can just multiply the angular width
of a format by its angular height to get "square degrees".
For those catching up on steradians, if you have a sphere
of radius = 1, then an area of 1^2 on the surface of that
sphere subtends a solid angle of 1 steradian at the center
of the sphere. Since the surface of a sphere is 4*pi*r^2,
there are 4 pi stereadians to a complete sphere.
What I'm trying to say is that a format projects as a
rectangle onto your retina. How many rods and cones are
within that rectangle? That should be the true measure
of the format because that tells how much information is
contained in the format (if the format has infinite res).
Now you just convolve resolution with coverage for the
net effect.
