My Sputnik seemed to have a semi-gloss type
finish on the interior bakelite originally.

I always use shades with mine. Homemade from
a pill bottle. I have some instructions on my
web page for making some from PVC test caps.

I'm sure Testor's paint would work but the
black flocked paper from Edmunds is better
and baffles and blackening is better still.
