If I understand correctly, John seems to be saying that if
the slides will only be hand-viewed, a constant OFD is
advisable.  So if you don't plan to project your MF stereo,
go ahead and use a constant figure for OFD.  (But I have
other questions about John's post also.)

BTW, how is the 2.7 calculated?  What is the basis of the
fraction that should be used to go from 1.2 to 2.7?  I
realize it's to give effect to scaling up from 35mm to
MF.  A viewing distance ratio would give (80/44) * 1.2
or 2.18, so I know that ain't it!
