Brian -
I have a Sputnik where the middle element of the left hand lens could
"rattle" very slightly until I added a thin [black] paper collar under the
retaining ring. Perhaps something similar is going on with your spud - the
shutter itself jostles the element creating motion blur in the image. Try
unscrewing the front element of the lens, and in the process of cleaning the
front surface of the middle element you might be able to tell if it is loose
(mine would rotate if I used a circular motion with the lens tissue). Lens
elements that are slightly undersized for the cell/retaining ring mounts
might be typical rather than peculiar to the spud I have.
