Quantity is not much of a problem for a different color. In
fact I have been trying to get some samples made of grey mounts.
Steve Spicer was working on this with me by providing a jpeg
file with sample grey scales. The process bogged down, however,
before it was completed. What I need is a file with a couple
of "target" shades of grey, plus, for each one, a required
minimum and maxium. The manufacturer can match a color range
but not a precise color. I didn't have time to investigate
how to make such a file, and Steve ran out of time to convert
his original one to the required format (target, min, max).
(Any volunteers out there?)

Now here's the "rub." The coloring will be accomplished by
printing white card stock a solid color. If you've seen the
Kodachrome slide mounts with a partial yellow stripe, that is
the type of printing that would be used, but over the whole
mount (and a different color, of course). The manufacturer
is perfectly willing to produce some mounts in any color we
might desire. They have warned, however, that they would be
concerned that black mounts would turn our fingers black
when we handle them. But I could have black samples made
to test the theory.

And now for a sneak preview of coming news: I have been working
on shifting production of the MF mounts to the same manufacturer
I am referring to above. The first sample run has been dispatched.
If it arrives in time I will have samples to distribute at the
convention. There will be one new interesting feature to these
mounts, so stop by and check them out!

(I would have had grey mount samples in this batch if the
process of getting the jpeg spec file had not ground to a
halt.)
