[MF3D.FORUM:909] Black mount obsession?

I confess to being somewhat puzzled by the strength of
the interest level in black mounts. When I look at a
MF stereo slide in a SaturnSlide viewer, the face of
the mount does not even look white. There is so little
light on the front of the mount that it looks like a
shade of grey at least one stop darker than 18% grey--
probably more. It is not quite as dark as a Spicer
mount in a red button, and not as dark as the black-
painted divider that I can see while looking at the
slide. This is with standing under bright lights.

Are most of you using viewers that allow a whole lot
more light to reach the front surface of the slide
mount?

Has anyone tried covering the front of a slide mount
to make it black (e.g., flocking paper or black gaffers
tape)? How much difference does it really make?
