One more comment. An open top viewer bothers
me. I don't like overhead light getting in and
illuminating the front of the slide (the white
mount primarily). I can't tell if your new
lovely viewer allows this though the photo
seems to imply that.
In my own viewer I have gone to great
lengths to get total immersion in the slide
being viewed. I have a septum between
the L and R sides to limit the eye to
seeing only its own film chip. I have
covered the septum and other inside
surfaced with black flocked paper. And
i have a black painted RMM mount in front
of the slide to block off most of the
view of the white slide mount (of the
slide being viewed). For 6x6 slides it
works almost perfectly but with non-sqare mounts
you do see some of the slide mount front.
Part of the white mount problem is
light getting in around your eyes and
lighting up the slide. Alan's hood would
prevent this. But if the top is open
for the sliding box for focusing then
there is a new area for unwanted light
to enter.
Remember that this is just my opinion
in regard to an ideal viewer and is subject
to change if I were buying or building
a real world viewer.
