Richard,
There was an article in one our our journals (Stereoscopic Society) 
which dealt with modifying the Fed and in particular converting it to 
full frame with a modified counter. It does work superbly, I've seen it.
If I can find the relevent book, I will scan it and send it as an 
attachment.
