Well, of course Steve Spicer is the authority on these things but I
think the only real concern is keeping the envelope of the quartz
at the right temperature so the halogen cycle will do its thing.

Now who was that fellow on P3D/T3D who was a lamp expert?
Older guy.  Used to work for a lamp company and sit on industry
committees.  He might know what you need to know.  Bob something,
I think.
