I have used pyro many years ago when I went through an Edward 
Weston period and there really is nothing that will extract the 
maximum from a neg particularly in the deep shadows. I also, at 
about the same time, was heavily into Paraphenelyne Diamine 
(PPD) which gave negs with no grain at all. PPD & Metol worked 
wonders. Regretably, we can not purchase these chemicals any 
more and I have had to revert to commercial brews. Yes!!!! Pyro is 
quite toxic.
