  A 75mm lens doesn't have much DOF at f5.6.
F16 is usually the widest open I shoot (prefer
f22) unless I'm intentionally trying to blur
the background.

The Sputnik also appears to be a difficult
camera to handhold steady, so opening up
to get a somewhat faster shutter speed may
still result in blurred photos from camera
shake as well as reduced DOF.

Lastly the Sputnik lenses are 3 element
ones which means they need to be stopped down
a fair bit to have reasonably sharp edges.
F8 might do it but I suspect f5.6 won't.

But after saying all that, if you are getting
good results at f5.6 then go for it.
