Old MF3D Glass Slides

I went to a local camera show last weekend and picked up a
couple of dozen old glass MF3D slides in glassine envelopes.
>From the scenery and costumes, they were taken in the 1920-30's
in Europe. They are B&W 6x6 side-by-sides. I held them up
to a strong light and then free-viewed them to choose the most
interesting to me out of about a hundred to choose from. The
ones with faraway scenery (ie. less stereo effect) and/or
boring subjects, I could spot through the glassine so
immediately put back.

At home, I tried them in Joel's 6x6 mounts - a good fit with
some window problems! 8-) Whatever the camera was, the
images were at a slight slant on the slide. I guess the glass
slide was always put in slightly crooked. This caused little
problem mounting them - just align them on the mount by the
sides of the images, not the edges of the glass. I'm tolerant
enough about window problems that it's not worth masking or
cutting them now - but maybe some day...

Cost? Well, he marked $3 apiece. I bargained down to a little
over $1 apiece as part of a package. He graciously let me
take them to a nearby table to sit and go through. Friends and
strangers came over and wanted to know what I was holding up
and looking at. I explained and this gave me a good intro into
the glories of MF3D ;-)

The quality was pretty good but the views were mostly on the
boring side if they were 2D.

This was one of the high points of the meet. The other was
taking the plunge and getting a pile of old ViewMaster reels.
I'm leaving Oregon and this is a good time to stock up on
Pacific NW reels.
