 I would think that if the problem is internal reflection, it would be
subject/lighting related.  That is, if a light source struck the lens, you would
get some flare.  The safest (maybe not the most exciting) situation would be a
scene where the light (probably the sun) is to your back and the camera in
confortably in the shade.  With the inside of the camera being glossy black and not
using a lens hood, you may be compounding the problem.  You may want to make
another analysis of the processed roll of slides to see if this is the problem.
The only time I have seen sloppy handling of film to be as big a problem (4
exposures on each end) as you're having, is if you dropped the film and broke the
plastic end cap or if the film got away from you and came unspooled.

You have recaptured my interest in shooting a roll with mine.
