MF Expo

A few more thoughts...

Sam made me think. (And that's not easy to do.) The one thing that got
me excited to actually start MF stereo was viewing the MF folio over at
Joel's house. I'm not sure that I would have spent the time and money
to get into this if I hadn't seen some great slides first. This makes me
think we should spend some extra effort to include people who are interested
but haven't started shooting MF stereo yet. It all comes back to deciding
the purpose of the expo. If the purpose is to grow the ranks of MF stereo
photographers, then we have to include those who are interested, but need
a jump start. If the purpose is for those of us who already are shooting
to see each others' photos, then it makes sense to just include shooters.
I'm going to have to vote for including non-shooting participants.

The two loop idea is fine with me. It won't be that much extra work.
If everyone enters four views, I'll put two in each loop.

My plan is to have everyone mail their views to me and the expo will make
one loop, then I'll mail back the views. If there's to be two opposite
loops, I'll wait for both to return before mailing back the views.

I'd like to do the expo without formal comments. I'll make up description
cards similar to Gregs and post them on my web site, or mail them to folks
as needed. I'd like to include some post cards in the expo that each person
could mail back to me when they send the expo on. This way we could vote
for first, second, third place entries and also help me keep track of the
expo. This would look similar to the SSA postcards. I think posting comments
here would be appropriate, and I know I appreciate comments on my work. I've
learned a lot from the people on this list and hate to miss any chance to
improve my photography.

Another thought is for everyone to include a biography page in the expo.
These are a pain to write and I hate doing it, but I think it helps to
get to know each other. Information I'd like to see in addition to
stereo photography interests, are job and other hobbies, favorite
places to travel, etc. Including an email address for contact would
be helpful, and I plan to include my address and phone number on mine.
I know I've enjoyed talking to Don Lopp on the phone.

We also need to decide how wide to make our announcement. Do we publicize
this on P3D? Invite only? How about folks like Don that aren't on the
internet? If we post to P3D and make it open to non-shooters, we'll quickly
be overwelmed.

David brings up an interesting point about including cards. In a MF expo
we are in a unique situation in that Holmes format stereo cards are very
close in size to MF slides. It should be possible to include both in the
expo. (Having seen some of David's cards, I'm anxious to see more.)

Any other comments on any of this?

Sorry to be so long-winded,

Les
