Macro MF

I just got hold of another Ricohflex, and I'm wanting to build a macro MF
camera. My question is a lens geometry question.

I could move the entire lens board forward an inch or two. Or I could move
just the front element (the part the moves when you focus the camera
normally.)

If I move the entire lens board forward, I am essentially making an
extension tube. I think I could whip up pretty quickly. So I hope that's
the right answer. :^)

Which is better?

Thanks all. I'm eager to design a new camera since I ruined the twinned
Lubitels. There's all that unused 120 film in the fridge. :^)
