Cool!  I did the five meter thing because it was night time and a Manhattan
apartment is nowhere near infinite in size.  I'll take them outside and try
again.

It was really the crooked lenses that had me spooked. Maybe they always
looked funny, but I didn't notice until after I disassembled them. Plus,
the litttle screws that hold the gears on the lenses look like they will
strip if I play with them much.
