That's was true when he wrote it. Don't know if
they would still do that.
The Horizon (if good enough) has the advantage of
focusing which gives you (individual) focusing on a
viewer. Nice if you don't want to rig up a rack and
pinion system.

I vote for John B. :)
His eyes are almost fixed focus so he is
good at judging field curvature. He also rigged
up a system of shooting a test slide though
a viewer lens to measure pincushion/barrel distortion
amounts.
Don't know if he would want to do it (or has
time).
