How about putting it up on a ball slide such as is made by THK 
or any number of bearing manufacturers?  Down side is the things
are maybe $100 each.  What is used in a "slide bar"?  I'm thinking
you could use this to slide the lens carrier box and then do some-
thing else for a light seal.
