I don't feel I said what I said as well as I could have.  
Let's revisit a 10X stereobase and objects at 100 meters:

In effect, since the 100 meters has been reduced to 10 meters, 
and your stereo acuity reaches to 10 meters, 100 meters is now 
within range of your stereo acuity.  Of course there is no actual 
"range" to stereo acuity.  It just tapers off with increasing 
distance and with decreasing spacing between objects.  But the 
stereo acuity you would have had at 10 meters you now have at 
100 meters.
