Could these "bubbles" that you are referring to be
pinholes in the emulsion? This can happen when using a
stop bath. I was told that the acid causes carbonates
in the emulsion to convert to CO2 and explode out. I
skip the acid stop bath and use a water rinse instead
before fixing when processing sheet film.
