The best part is you can drive them nuts from 100 yds. away ;-).
I checked my pointer and the fat dimension is 0.62" tapering to
about 0.55" with the Spud wedging it somewhere between these two
points. However playing around with it I found that even pushing
it forward beyond the taper still allowed the beam to fall within
the ground glass circle, it just landed toward the outer edge for 
a subject at the closest focusing distance. 

It seems that as long as the beam is parallel to the viewfinder 
edge it will land within the focusing circle. I found the box
mine came in and it has #36534 on it so I'd bet the one with that
stock no. is the same.
