Yes, I did read this thread on the philosophy of stereo. 
And yes, I have some thoughts, but I doubt if they make sense
:-).

As George has indicated, this issue it is not only on stereo 
geometry and physiology of perception, but also on habituation 
and personal taste.

One time "hyper" is enough for me :-).
Personally I find a base of 175 mm for "home and garden" shots 
(including antiques cars) definitely too large. I also notice
the effect of some 120 mm base. 

For me, the depth enhancement at those distances is similar to 
screaming colors, too much of a good thing. But as this is 
personal taste, it is hardly worth of mentioning.
