Oh but they can, just get a set of close up lenses. There are 
several on eBay right now that will fit your Yashicamat. Look 
at items #404557456 and #406979606. The first one closes in 
about 9 hours and is at $17.50 the other still has 6 days, no 
bids and starts at $49.95. This one even has parallax 
correcting and focuses between 8 and 13 inches.
