The slide rail allows the Mamiya lenses to focus. The Sputnik lenses
are focused by rotating the front lens element, but the Mamiya lenses
are sliding bellows focus, so I needed a sturdy, precise way to hold the
lenses in position and move them back and forth to focus.

I think the lenses are the biggest improvement to the camera, but the
bright finder also is better than the Sputnik ground lens focus hood.

This camera is rather lightweight and compact for a MF rig using quality
lenses. It is probably the lightest weight you can get.
