                unmoderated group rec.photo.stereo-3d

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup rec.photo.stereo-3d.  This is
not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.  Procedural
details are below.

For your newsgroups file:
rec.photo.stereo-3d     Anything stereoscopic, lenticular, holographic.

RATIONALE: rec.photo.stereo-3d

The rationale for rec.photo.stereo-3d is a radically different subject
from any of the others currently on the Usenet.

alt.3d.SIRDS covers stereograms, a particular aspect of 3d imagery,
and won't be affected by a NG about stereoscopy.

There is currently no newsgroup devoted to discussion abuot
stereoscopic techniques, holography, 3dTV, collection of stereo pics,
viewmaster reels, stereo cameras and tools, nor swapping of such
items.

There are about 20 mailing lists about stereoscopy (in english,
spanish, italian, french, german, danish and dutch). The main mailing
list photo-3d@xxxxxxxxxxx (in english) has over 600 members.  Such
mailing lists have powerful tools (data bases, image files) but none
of them is multi-lingual.

Altought new technologies made production of stereo pictures (still
and motion) easier than ever, and general interest about stereoscopy
is fastly growing up (over 200 sites in the stereoscopic 3d web ring!)
many countries have no national stereo clubs, so newbies have problems
to get in contact with other amateurs in the same country.

Some people are still scared by mailing lists, but they freely surf
the Usenet.

CHARTER: rec.photo.stereo-3d

This newsgroup will ideally be used for free postings in any languages
from stereo photograpers, holographers, collectioners, and simple
curious people looking for advice, contacts, clubs or other
communities or ressources.  It will be a provisional meeting point for
such users until they find/create their ideal community. It also will
be a place for people whishing to swap/sell/buy stereo equipment or
collection items.

The following subjects will be discussed in this newsgroup:

1)  Technology related to stereo imagery.
2)  Homebrew stereo techniques.
3)  Promotion of other 3d communities: national clubs and mailing
    lists or other fora
4)  Anything stereo for swap, sale, auction...
5)  Events of interest for stereo enthousiasts.

PROCEDURE:

This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes.  In this phase
of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroup
should be raised and resolved.  The discussion period will continue
for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion
warrants it. Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.

All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.

This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation
guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How
to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal". Please refer to these
documents (available in news.announce.newgroups) if you have any
