[MF3D.FORUM:1266] MFST Projection?

I can probably add some fuel to this fire. (Why not?) I purchased a
meduium format slide projector about 2 years ago and got some of my
brother's 6x6 stuff he shot in the 1970s with a Yashica 124g. We had
never seen them projected before. Results? Stunning. Beautifull stuff.
So I shot some more 6x645 slides with my Pentax (Fuji Provia/Velvia)
and took a look see. Again 35mm does not compare. A loss of resolution?
I think not that anyone can see. It is noticeably sharper than 35. But
this stands to reason. 70mm movies were a big improvement over the 35
format when they hit the theaters ages ago. Movie houses shyed away
from 70mm because of the costs. Everything about 70mm cost more, the
prints, the projectors, maintenance, etc.
As for projection, I always thought Realist format looked better
projected than in a viewer. You just lose the brightness because of
the polarizers. Or so it seems to me anyway. The stereo effect seems
a lot more pronounced on screen than in viewer. The lenticular screen
does tend to be annoying in home projection as I can see the lines.
Just my 5 cents worth having been around both formats.

As for comparing a Sputnik to a Realist. As far as picture quality
is concerned, the Spud lens is nothing to write home about. Its OK. The
Realist is better. But it does not compare to modern 35mm lenses either
and I mean from the 1970s onward. My Minolta SRT-101 50mm F1.4 lens makes
the Realist 2.8 I have look shabby. The improvement of the 120 stereo
format over the 5p Realist is still nice with a Spud compared to a Rrealist.

I always wondered what a Pentax 645 twinned or a good 6x6 rig like a
Hassey or Bronica twinned would look like in stereo. Sigh....
