Paul,

Radio Shack sells "Jewelers screwdrivers" sets.  The
smallest flat head screw driver of the set is suitable 
for removing the Sputnik screws.  I think the 
screwdriver has a width of 1 or 1.5 mm -- very small.

As for the shutter, it is probable that one or
both of the lenses of the sputnik are misaligned.
Either the "trip bar" between the lens is bent or
that one or both of the lens assemblies has been 
rotated slightly.

If everything else is sync'ed up (aperature,
horizontal alignment) slightly bending the
trip bar tab at one end may help.

Of course removal of the focus gears and the
cover plate is necessary!
