I don't know which contact cement you specify in the kit.  The brush or
spray on ones can be very aggressive.  I usually use the dispensible tape
type of roll on cement available as either permanent or temporary adhesive.
The temporary adhesive is very similar to Post-It notes adhesive.

One thing to specify when using the adhesives is to clean the Bakelite area
with rubbing alcohol first.
