The photography teacher at my daughter's NYC school, MS51, had the idea of
doing this for the yearbook, but not as a panorama. He lined up the kids
into a '5' and a '1' and shot them from the roof. Unfortunately it was a
sunny day and parts were in sun and parts were in shade. I got the
unenviable job of trying to fix it in Photoshop <g>.

Nevertheless it was a nice concept and everybody thought it came out great.
Of course the real success was in getting 200 hormonally crazed teenagers
to pull it off!
