Pom, or Pomey is still used a lot in Australia in reference to British
people and said to have derived from a shorthand description on 19th
century transported convicts' papers - P O M E (Prisoner of Mother England)

You didn't ask about 'Limey'. In the mid 18th century a Scottish naval
surgeon discovered that the debilitating disease scurvy to which sailors
were prone, could be prevented by eating limes and other fruit rich in
Vitamin C during long sea voyages. British sailors thus came to be called
'Limeys' by other nationalities (who presumably were still getting scurvy!).

Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with panoramic photography, but
neither did the previous 20 or so posts on the same subject.
