Re: widelux filters
Using parts from one filter to make another filter is a good idea. I would
suggest that you find an old filter, take it apart and separate the glass
from the gel materials. This assumes that laminated filters are used and
not Dyed In The Mass filters. If you can't easily separate the glass, soak
it in hot water, taking care not to scratch the surface of the glass, and
do not boil the glass.
Carefully dry the glass and thoroughly inspect it for cleanliness,
scratches and bits of gel / Adhesive that might remain on the glass.
Next, obtain the required Wrattin Gel and some Optical Cement or Canadian
Balsam and bind the gel material. Do not use any of that colored acetate or
other plastics such as offered by Rosco or Cine Gel. It takes effort to
bind in glass and you might as well start with a quality material. If you
have access to a UV Curing light source, use one of the UV Cure adhesives
offered by Norland. If not, use Canadian Balsam.
Regards,
Robert
