I personally agree with the gentleman who says that the 1:3 perspective is
more satisfying that the 1:2.
--> So do I, That is why I almost never print my swing lens Noblex images
full frame. I crop to the 1:3 when printing. I have the added benefit of
deciding to cut off the top, bottom, or both.
Anyway, the Linhof 617 second model is worth about $2,200 to $2,500.
Remember,
there is a filter included. Those suckers cost a lot of money as well.
--> I bought my #6 Cirkut Outfit for $1,500. With it I shoot conventional
6x17s (4 to a standard film holder) 5x7, 4x5, 6x12 as well as rotational on
5 inch and 6.5 inch roll film with 4,5,6,7,8,10,11,14,16 inch lenses on
seven foot long film. (When shooting conventional I have rise, fall, shift,
and tilt controlls too)
So, let's have fun and discuss this a bit further. What I enjoy is that
every
one swears than their own preference is the best. I do, and so does anyone
else. Fine. No problem. Just never take pictures with a camera that works
against your own personal
artistic vision. Different visions is not like apples and oranges, even
though cameras are
externally. What matters is the internal unique vision. The camera is merely
an instrument by which to express this vision. For me that is mostly the 1:3
non-rotational camera vision.
--> For this you don't need a special camera. Save your money for film and
buy a pair of scissors for cropping off the top and bottom of the photos
that you take with the camera that you own now.
Photography happens first in the heart and mind, secondly with the camera.
But
the camera must be part of this unity.
Happy shooting!
