Re: OK to have fun/color

I can think of several very fine photographers who work fluently in color:
Jay Maisel, the late Ernst Haas, Joel Meyorwitz, Arthur Meyerson, Jack
Dykinga, Bernie Imes, David Doubilet, Richard Misrach, Joyce Tenneson, sam
Abell, Jodi Cobb, William Albert Allard, Sandy Skoglund,

First of all, there are great images made by great photographers in both
black and white as well as color. There is no reason to believe that color
is better or more difficult than black and white, or the other way around.
The photographers named above can work in any medium they want to and can
be successful doing it.

I think a few of the above are highly over rated and there are probably
better photographers on this list who did not get the breaks the above
group did. I also believe that some of the above sell because of their name
not because of their talent... some are now getting by because of their
name.

So, forget the idea that color is or is not better than black and white and
visa versa. A good photograph is a good photograph, and everyone here has
the potential of out doing any of the above, I suspect.
