Re: professional photographers

Bob's book has the potential to do two things for the people who submit
photos.
It gives them a chance to reach a broader audience, and helps with giving
them a reference, which is important in the "fine art photo scene". The
world of professional photography and the fine art scene tend to be miles
apart in many ways, and both demand obtaining exposure in different ways.
I'm a professional photographer and have been over twenty years- My means
of support does and has come solely from photography -mostly commercial.

My feeling are - if you make money your a professional - pretty basic. And
my photos appear in recycling bins nationally. (oh no- not another catalog)

On the other hand, I have a passionate interest in photography which is why
I started and why I'm doing pan photography. I could care less if someone
is a "pro photographer" so long as they love what they are doing. There are
times when being a professional photographer gets in the way of keeping
that passion alive, which is why I got into cirkuts and roundshots. It's
hard to go out and shoot after spending the entire week in front of a
camera , but pan photography feels far enough removed from work to make it
exciting.
Ther are many different scenes out there we need to make sure we have an
understanding which one we are talking about. I'm presently doing the prof.
photography thing, as well as take pics for myself. I think Bob's book has
it's place.
