Robert Monaghan's post about suppling free images, and the broader and
more important issue's and innovations, or lack of, confronting pro and
semi pro photographers was well worth the read. I inadvertantly started
this thread with a simple suggestion some weeks back. A varity of
opinion, most from the emotional zone, has been offered.
My original email was fairly circumspect in it's focus. To paraphrase;
I stated that the publisher should provide contact info, type of work
offered, etc...for the photographer's who provide free work.
Anotherwords, if the trade off is free photo's for publication/free
publicity then the publisher should offer something of reasonable value
(a minimal cost for the publisher) in exchange. This has been done by
others in other areas. Otherwise, if your name is John Doe, Sam Smith,
etc...(unless you are already well known)... no one will be able to
contact you.
I saw a post by Bob which asked for the "promised photos pronto" and for
the who what how where info. I am unsure whether he was referring to
photo info, or the photographer, but my sense was that he was interested
in the photo, not the photographer.
