Digital 360 cameras -Reply

Dear Chat Line,

After reading over Steve's message about digital 360 cameras I was struck with just how
far panoramic imaging has come in a few short years. While not being very active as a
panorama shooter, I have been a great fan of the format for a long time.

I wanted to mention again to the chat line, but especially to those in the digital imaging
arena, that you should consider joining the International Association of Panoramic
Photographers ( IAPP ). We are an organization which thrives on an influx of new ideas,
new techniques and new technologies as they relate to panoramas. Love of that unique
format of imagery, however conceived, is the bond that helps keep us together. Individuals
and companies can join, and companies are encouraged to advertise their products and
services in our publications and our web site.

With the advent of the 21st Century upon us, it is likely that more digital panoramas will be
created than with conventional film. Perhaps someday we'll be known as IAPI, with the last
word being 'imaging'.

This chat line has been a great asset for panorama lovers and I commend Steve for
keeping it going and hanging in there when things got a little hectic ( i.e., recent 'Nazi'
exchanges ). But in my opinion, cyberspace can't equal live personal exchanges and
these interactions are what help make IAPP events fun, informative and worthwhile.

There are a couple of IAPP events happening soon which may be of interest to you:

I am organizing a weekend conference for April 9-11, 1999 to be held in the Washington,
DC area. I advertised this earlier on the chat line. While much is slated to be devoted to
historic panoramas, there is plenty of room for adjustments. I am hoping for a greater
response, especially from the digital imaging folks. This would be open to members ans
non-members alike.

There will be a weekend conference in Peyresq, France on June 10-13, 1999 featuring
speakers, equipment demos and field trips.

The IAPP International Convention will be held in Quebec City, Canada during either the first
or second week of October, 1999.

More information on these events, as well as membership information, is available on our
website: www.panphoto.com. If you want to find out more about the Washington
conference, e-mail me at richard.schneider@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx or try me at work,

Thanks,

Richard Schneider
