>>Actually light is not overrated; it is only those who don't work hard
enough
at learning how to work with it, or those who lack talent who would make
such an absurd statement. For those who feel that way: Stick to twiddling
with knobs and "virtual" life; the rest of us have photos to make. This is
not to say that light is only thing that "makes" a photograph; there is
also
composition, color, & gesture.-30-

Come on E.V..... comments like this ignite further comments like this.
Light and dark are equally important. After all, without either, a
photograph is not possible. As for the comment about photography being
overrated, I somewhat agree. Too many self-important people out there
taking photographs. I have observed, over the years that photographers are
put on a pedestal, and for no other reason than the public's perception of
the job.

Much like writing, photography is not that tough. With all the mini labs
out there and the high degree of automation, most of the work is already
done. Evidence the sheer number of people attempting it. I will also
concede that what might be good work to you, is not to me. What makes a
good image is different for everyone. For me, a large format image,
properly exposed, good shadow and highlight detail and tack sharp is what
makes a good/great photograph. If it is a Panoramic image, nothing compares
to a Cirkit Camera. forget those small format cameras. quality demands
large film size.

So, let people make silly comments if they want to, but resist the
temptation that every comment needs a reply. That is what I am trying to
do.

Composition is not easily defined. What is well composed to you, might be
deplorable to me. Color? that is subjective as well. My only question is
what do you mean by Gesture? Please define it for me/us.
