The reason transparencies have a better reputation for scanning is because
the commercial photography industry has shot transparencies for years, as
they were easier to go to color seperations. When the industry went to
scanning for seps they perfected scanning from transparencies first when
writing the software. Actually, the big printers preferred kodak film for a
long time as they weren't used to color correcting with fuji film. They
didn't want to change their system. It's all in the software though, and
if the scanning software is well written and adjusted for color negs, then
you can get a good scan. A good scanner operator helps. Jamie
