Willem,

Yes, I was a little surprised at the price for a new charging unit, $50 US.  
I was thinking of visiting the local electronics store and seeing if I could 
find one similar in output and using it.  Not being an electronics type of 
person I was unsure if I was doing the right thing.  I sure didn't want to 
damage the camera battery and end up having a large repair bill.  The new 
charging unit listed 6V as it's output, but when I metered it on my voltage 
meter I see that it is putting out 9.6V.  Anyway, I've got the new charger, 
the camera is charged and I can now go shoot some film.  Thank you to those 
that have responded to my question.
