Fan Cirkut camera tune up /fan speeds

I've had my #10 cirkut fan camera a while and haven't used it too much as
it's been banding a bit . The banding is small close together changes of
speed and I'm guessing , since I just took it apart , that it's due to the
oil and dirt all over the brass gears in the mechanism. I'm going to take
it completely apart tomrrow and clean and relube it.I've been told brass
gears don't want oil on the teeth, and should run dry (just oil on the
bearings). As the gears are covered with oil, I'm assuming this is a
mistake, and the gears should run dry, like in the governor models. It
seems simpler than my #6's and #8's. Anyone have any particular words of
advice about fan mechanisms (other than buy a roundshot).
The mechanism seems to have a lot more power and torque than the smaller
cameras.
Also, I heard that kodak originally sold the fan cameras with more fans,
with speeds up to 1/30 of a second. My camera came with three fans. 1/3,
1/6 , and 1/10. Why did kodak discontinue the faster fans? Have people made
various fans for other speeds and had success?
Thanks- Jamie
