Noblex 150 focus

While replying to some newbie questions about the Noblex 150 fix
focus model, I realized that DOF does not include infinity until
f8....while the manual suggests it does:

There is a red dot on the bottom, in the middle of the film rail.
Subtle, but present....:-))

Until the wind-knob goes no further (it locks).
But, assuming you have done several idle shots, the knob isn't at the right
position right now....before loading, it must have been through all the 6
frames, and the indicator stops rotating at the end of the roll (the knob
itself still rotates to wind on the remaining part of the film, and you can
feel resistance in the knob itself). You then normally remove the film
(imaginary now), put in a new one, align at the red dot, PRESS THE RELEASE
BUTTON ONCE (camera off preferably), and then turn the knob/wind on the new
film until the indicator locks at frame #1.
Note that winding on the remainer of the film can sometimes result in
jamming, because the film doesn't align properly at the end, and wraps
outside the spool....don't use large force, simply open the back in subdued
light, this happens mostly only on the very end of the film.
It also varies with film type/brand.
>Also, is infinity included in the DoF at all F stop numbers?
Mmm....not at f4.5 I believe, the DOF table (from manual) is written as
'down to X meters', and it starts with f5.6 / 3.3m, suggesting that f4.5
does not include infinity. This goes further with 2.7m (f8), 2.2m (f11),
1.7m (f16)and 1.3m (f22)
Other proof: even with the focussing models (06/150 F & U), the
infinity-setting at f4.5 gives a DOF of 130-6.8m (f5.6 gives a DOF of
infinity-6.1m, to show the difference with your fix-focus DOF).
Mmm....now I look at that table, the "5m" setting for the focus models only
includes infinity from f8 and smaller....at f8, DOF is
infinity-2.6m....which suggests that you also need f8 with the non-focus
models to get infinity (see above DOF data). Not nice....
Two additional pointers/recommendations: check my homepage for some general
panorama chapters, and consider subscribing to the Panorama Photography

the PhotoForum site (linked at my homepage).
